El Garachico que viene, ¿el que queremos? Primera parte. The Garachico that come, what we want? First part

En el mes de septiembre, se publicó en el periódico El Día, una entrevista al teniente de alcalde y concejal de Urbanismo del Ayuntamiento de Garachico, José Heriberto González. En él, se citaron los futuros planes urbanísticos del municipio:

Es fundamental para el futuro de la Villa y Puerto que se ejecute, "cuanto antes", el plan especial de ordenación de la zona externa del muelle. […] Este plan ordenará los usos de los 32.000 metros cuadrados de terreno anexos al futuro muelle, la mayoría de propiedad privada.

El Ayuntamiento garachiquense, que también posee algunas parcelas en la zona, plantea que el entorno del puerto albergue "dos o tres pequeños hoteles especializados, donde por ejemplo puedan alojarse los navegantes que hagan escala con sus barcos; un gran aparcamiento para unos 600 vehículos; un balneario; restaurantes de nivel; un club náutico; un auditorio al aire libre, y espacios para el ocio nocturno".

[…] El responsable de Urbanismo reconoce que el campo de fútbol del casco, remozado recientemente y protegido por una costosa barrera de hormigón, "podría trasladarse a medio plazo". A su juicio, "resulta evidente que el campo ocupa la mejor parcela que queda disponible en Garachico, en un lugar donde, precisamente, no abunda el suelo". Los planes municipales para esa parcela están claros: un centro comercial y de ocio, dotado con aparcamientos y un hipermercado. González recuerda que "el municipio no tiene ni siquiera un supermercado mediano y necesitamos nuevos espacios comerciales para adaptarnos también a las necesidades que generará el nuevo puerto".

[…] El futuro del empaquetado de plátanos pasa por convertirse en un balneario con otros atractivos orientados al turismo, como una pequeña zona comercial exclusiva, en un edificio que, según el concejal de CC, "tendrá que ser emblemático". Aparte de mejorar los servicios y atractivos locales, esta actuación permitiría eliminar el "impacto estético" que causa el empaquetado en desuso.

La tercera gran actuación que prevé el plan especial del litoral es la urbanización de la zona de El Río y su conexión con la playa del muelle, "que debería ampliarse". José Heriberto González subraya que esta zona actualmente baldía tiene "una gran potencialidad". Allí se prevé construir el tercer gran aparcamiento del casco, que se uniría a los del muelle y el centro comercial, así como varias promociones de viviendas y locales comerciales "de escasa densidad".

[…] "Pretendemos que Garachico ofrezca en su casco todos los servicios de un hotel de lujo: balneario, gimnasio, restaurantes de alto nivel, piscina, tiendas... Que los clientes alojados caminen por las calles del casco e interactúen con el pueblo", subraya.

A esta revolución urbanística se une otro proyecto que está en fase de estudio: el funicular para unir el casco con la zona alta del municipio. "Con este servicio de transporte público, que cuenta con un indudable atractivo turístico, también podremos desarrollar los proyectos de explotación de los recursos de las medianías, como por ejemplo el volcán de Arenas Negras", señala González.

El alcalde accidental lo tiene claro: "En un año y medio tendremos en las manos el futuro de Garachico: estos dos planes especiales, el Plan Especial del Casco y el propio Plan General de Ordenación (PGO). En ese momento habrá que contactar con los inversores interesados en ejecutar todos estos proyectos, que los hay".

[…] González se adelanta a posibles críticas al modelo de desarrollo planteado: "Queremos ser el motor que reactive la economía de la Isla Baja, pero de una manera sosegada y meditada. No apostamos por la masificación turística, sino por un crecimiento limitado, basado en la calidad y no en la cantidad".

In September, was published in the El Día newspaper, an interview with the deputy mayor and Urbanism councilor of the Municipality of Garachico, Jose Heriberto González. It was cited for future urban development plans of the municipality:

" In his view, "it is clear that the field took the best land still available in Garachico, in a place where, precisely, not rich soil." Municipal plans for the plot are clear: a shopping and leisure center, with parking and a supermarket. Gonzalez said that "the town has no grocery store or even a new medium and we need spaces to adapt to business needs that will generate the new port."

[...] The future of packaging of bananas going to become a resort with other tourism-oriented attractions, such as a small exclusive shopping area in a building that, according to DC councilman, "must be symbolic." Besides improving local services and attractions, this approach would eliminate the "aesthetic impact" caused by packing into disuse.

The third major action that provides for the special plan of the coast is the urbanization of the area of El Rio and its connection to the beach pier, "which should be extended." Jose Heriberto Gonzalez stressed that this area currently has wasted "a great potential." There are plans to build the third largest park in the town, which would join the dock and the shopping center and several residential developments and commercial "low density".

[...] "We aim to provide Garachico in his helmet all the services of a luxury hotel: spa, gym, restaurants, high-level swimming pool, shops ... that customers housed walk through the streets of the town and interact with people", he stresses.

This urban revolution joins another project that is under study: the funicular railway to connect the helmet to the upper area of the municipality. "With the public transport system, which has an undoubted tourist attraction, we can also develop projects to exploit the resources of the midlands, including the volcano black sand," says Gonzalez.

The accidental mayor has it clear: "In a year and a half we will have in their hands the future of Garachico: these special plans, the Special Town Plan and the General Management Plan (PGO). At that point you'll have to contact investors interested in implementing all these projects, that there is ".

[...] Gonzalez anticipates possible criticisms raised by the development model: "We want to be the engine to revive the economy of the Lower Island, but in a calm and thoughtful manner. We are not mass tourism, but for a limited growth based on the quality rather than quantity. "
